Jamie Franki : Illustration

Jamie Franki is currently a tenured Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he coordinates the Illustration program in the Department of Art. He was a Master Designer in the United States Mint's Artistic Infusion Program. In 2005, his "American Bison" nickel reverse design was selected for a six-month minting. In January of 2006, his "Jefferson 1800" nickel obverse design began its long-term run as America's new and historic forward-facing coin.


Franki received his MFA Degree in Illustration from Syracuse University. In addition to his twenty-one year practice of teaching art on the College and University level, Jamie actively maintains an artistic practice in exhibition, public and private commission and visual communication. His artwork has been exhibited in numerous venues, including the Society of Illustrators' Museum of American Illustration in NYC, The Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge MA, the San Francisco Art Directors' Club and the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame. Selected clients for Jamie Franki's design and illustration include the United States Mint, the Kenan Football Hall of Fame in Chapel Hill NC, the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, WFAE National Public Radio, the NC State University Football Hall of Fame, U.S. Home Corporation, In Business Magazine, BioCycle Magazine and Stock Car Racing Magazine. Greatly influenced by the artists of the "Golden Age" of American illustration, Jamie Franki strives to create narrative artwork that is rich in detail, expression and accessibility to a wide range of people. He resides in Concord, NC with his wife Penny, who has supported and assisted him in his studio endeavors for the past fifteen years.
